What are the Pro's and Con's of a traction unit from Auburn Vs. a Detroit Locker or Powertrax?

Track Lock uses clutches and springs to force the rear axles to act in concert. Getting on it around corners will toast the clutches eventually. Quieter than lockers and clutch packs run about 50 bucks.
A locker uses two opposing castellated hubs to lock the two wheels together. No clutches to wear out, noisy when cornering and locked when cornering under power. Cool but not for slippery road cornering if you're an idiot. The best for burning donuts. ;D
Auburn diff's use different clutches and the powertraxx uses similar tech as a locker.
Are you pondering an 8" freshen up or a nine inch replacement. Check with Maeracing on ebay for the good price on a low miles locker for cheap. He sells 8" tl's too.

For a street vehicle a Limited-slip unit would be best. Sure the clutches wear out eventually, but so does everything else on a car. As long as you keep from doing a lot of burnouts and/or donuts it should live a long life.
With that said, Lockers now are not as harsh and jarring as most people seem to think. The powertrax unit is made to be a smoother locker than the standard detroit locker. The powertrax unit fits inside the carrier, where the detroit replaces the carrier. W2zero is correct, a locker is bad news in the rain.
