According to "American Cars '46 thru '75", the main difference between a '62S33 and '62S55 is a trim kit and bigger engine-tranny-differential in the S55. Is this true? Is the car itself identical ie: frame, body etc?
I know the S55 is about 1000lbs. heavier. I guess this could be due to the bigger mill etc.
I'm curious cause I want a big block car so I'm wondering: Do all the mods necessary to drop a big block into the S33? Guess one advantage here is doing it up the way I like.

Look around for an S55? But if the S55 is in fact a BIGGER car, then I don't want it. Although since the car would already be 'big block ready', this is an obvious advantage.

Yes the S55 is a full size car. For the big block clearance in the smaller platform you can check with RRS or Crites.

To fit a larger motor I think you're gonna need to knock out those shock towers for the space. So, it looks like a bigger motor AND a mustang 2 front end.

Now that we generally drifted to more technical and hot rodding with this topic. I moved it.
The Crites clearance kit allows for a Ford 460 or any of the FE motors 352 up to the 427 without altering the placement of the upper control arms steering or the springs. It is the least invasive least expensive least skill level mod to make for clearance.
The MII conversion is major cutting and fabrication and involves a lot of money and a high level of skill.
The RRS conversion is in my opiniom, the best looking and least radical solution structurally. Very expensive but similar to the Crites solution for skill required.

Wow, really!? I had been lead to believe that a cleveland woundn't fit at all without serious mods to the engine bay. Thanks for that info (I should have kept my misinformed opinion to myself )

Just be prepared for either custom headers or hyper expensive single application headers. Like 500 and up, mostly up.

When your guys refer to puting on a mustang II end, what does that mean? I understand that allows more room in the engine compartment but how? Does this change the styling of the car?

The S55 is a restyled Galaxie, bigass car!
The Mustang II conversion is often done when the owner could have just replaced the old front end parts with new ones. It is expensive which is part of the appeal for some. If you just want disc brakes there are much cheaper easier ways that bolt on. These old cars handle pretty well with new bushings and radial tires and serious sway bars on them.

The front discs from a Maverick or a Granada/Monarch will bolt on with just a change in the tie rod ends. Some of the early Mustang (pre II) are a bolt on but very hard to find. The MII swap can be done with MII parts from a salvage yard but are all available from catalogues as components or as a large kit.
