Stella, and my fiance and I took a road trip from Saratoga CA to Seattle and on to the Shaw Island in the San Juan Islands in Washington. Was a great trip and we had a harrowing drive thru the biggest snow in 12 years in Portland and Seattle. No chains, just stock looking thin whites and open rear with 3.50s. I think manual steering helped me control it on the highway too when there was lots of powder.

Funny you should mention that........ never had all that much trouble getting around in these cars back in the day. Maybe it was the road feel that is pretty much gone in newer cars by comparison. I've been driving the Fairlane lately since the Dodge **ckup is having a transitional period what with a wiring difficulty and all.

It was cool to see these pictures of your Meteor actually getting out in the elements and playing "road warrior"! How well did the heater work? And the defroster? I'm trying to winterize my '62 ... and I think I need a stronger fan or something, to keep the windshield from fogging up.

Did you check the defroster hoses? They are almost always cracked open and leaking like crazy. Sometimes they are missing altogether if they got rotten and the owner saw them hanging down and ripped them off. Also check that the cable on the blend door is opening it all the way. On mine, it was barely going half way.

Thanks, Meteorgirl ... on my 2 cars, both of them have brand new hose, and are not leaking.
I'm sure I'm getting the same flow as when these cars were new; it's just that it doesn't keep up with a modern system, where the flow is higher and better distributed across the windshield.
