Has anyone tried the Holley 570 street avenger carb? I am planning a swap from Motorcraft 2 brl to a Holley 570 in my Merc. I have an aluminum Ford Intake Man. w/ the equal 4 hole. I've heard this manifold is decent for low end. I wonder how the 570 will work with it. Currently the engine is a stock early 70's 302. I did'nt put the engine in but perhaps the 221 exhaust Manifolds were reused because they are small! Have 2 1/4 Dual Exhaust and turbo mufflers. I have an open element air cleaner, but have been pondering using the stock snorkle style air cleaner and plumb it into the cowl.

I talked about this on a previous thread. I run the Holley 80570 on my modified 302. I had a Holley R6919 600 cfm which is the correct carb for an early 70's Ford 302. The car ran very well for the 2 yrs it was on. When we changed to the 80570, it was like we bolted on another 10 to 15 horsepower. My old carb was a fresh rebuld from a carb rebuilding company not a back yard job and yet the out of the box 80570 was that much better. In fact we took the 6919 and installed it on a 76 Merc with a 460 and it made that car run way better than the stock Ford unit so I know the 6919 was a good running unit. I don't know how the 80570 could be so good out of the box, but it is. It will be affected by all the other pieces on the engine but for me it was perfect. On stock small cube motors under 325 cu in, a lot of our club guys run the Holley R1848 which is a 465 cfm unit from late 50's Fords with 332 & 352's. The throttle response is unreal and the mileage is superb. It’s such a popular carb for smaller displacement engines that Holley still sells this carb brand new. It is also very popular on 2X4 set ups for the street to keep overall cfm down. It does NOT have the Ford A/T kickdown on the side for the C4’s but will bolt right on if you are still using the original Ford cradle assembly or have converted to a cable kickdown. The 80570 has all the hook ups for a Ford including the kickdown and only requires the running of a 12v source for the electric choke if you are going to use it.
