We fired up the new installation of the 570 last night, and need to "fine tune" timing this evening when the "help" gets off work. I'll have the coolant added, and vacuum gauge set up, awaiting his talents. I discovered that the "generic" intake may not have been correct for the 5.0, so it has been replaced with a Edelbrock intake, and a couple of modifications for mounting the coil, etc. First trys to start it last night weren't successful, and through troubleshooting, we discovered that the distributor was stabbed "one tooth" off. Got that corrected, and it fired right up, but without coolant, quit for the night to avoid overheating, and the help needed his rest. I'm real anxious to find out if this will result in better mpg's.

On Sunday, I did a short road trip (40 miles) after topping off the gas tank, and was pleasantly surprised that, after topping off the tank again, I used 1.7 gal. for the 40 miles - figures 25 mpg! I'm now thinking that the intake manifold that I replaced was my sudden loss of mpgs problem. It now sports a Edelbrock Performer intake under the Holley 570. I have an appointment tomorrow to have the engine cleaned with a detailing shop some 45 miles away, so will re-check mileage at the end of that trip.

I have been lookiing into a similar swap for my 62. I was looking into the Edlelbrock carb and intake though. Not worried about MPG though. I want reliability. Torque and HP would be nic too.
Any one else have any advice on this swap?
