I want to build a stroker 331 or 347. But the I get to thinking why not build a strked 351 instead! I mean, I have a nice 302 in the merc right now. Why not go a step farther on the next one. Until I get the block it's all just bench racing. I'd prefer to up in displacement but if I come across an inexpensive 302 then I'll go with that. BTW, I'm here late again. I'm working on a trailer for a movie called "Lucky Number Slevin". It's a way cool flick starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Ben Kinsley, Josh Hartnet, and Lucy Liu. Can't say what it's about but I liked it a lot. The graphics (main title and stuff) for it are just taking a lot of time to work out.

stroked 351 to get 427 sounds downright nasty - sure would be different but you just get that lil 302 ya already have freshened up and you'll probly luv it just like that midnight is way too late unless you came in late but you sure beat the traffic this way ;D

I would probably go with a 351 stroked to 393. As for my 302, it should be fired up soon. The guys who put it together had that junk yard mentality. Find it cheap and slap it on. The problem is that a lot of the stuff just didn't work together or at all! Too much mismatched crap. Also, I don't need this bigger mill anytime soon, but I am keeping my eye out for any thing that looks promising. Yes, 1:30 am is just way too late. Especialy when I started the work day at 10:00 am the day before.

I think it's all up to the motorsports gods as far as which engine does what. I bought a "crate" motor for my '88 chevy 350 4x4, got it at advance and it has run perfectly since day one. I built the motor in my '68 mustang, going detail to detail, making sure everything is perfect, and it only runs about half the time. It's a 351 bored .030 over with a stroker kit, aluminum heads, air gap manifold, 800 cfm holley, etc.... at the present time, it needs a new electric fuel pump so I can up the pressure, it starves above 4500 rpm's. I think if your gonna use it stock, a crate motor is usually okay, but if your gonna start modifying it, NOTHING will work perfectly, but it' a whole lot funner this way. any engines I've left completely alone run on average 125% better (reliability-wise) than the ones I "soup-up"
now once I get the fuel problem fixed, I can start to tune the nitrous plate system, and the wheel goes 'round again...

The only way to find your weak points are to break things...LOL...Other than a few charging issues my old 5.0 runs really decent. I'm swapping in a 90A alternator with a 12" SPAL electric fan and adjustable fan temp control this winter, gonna cure my charging issues and gain back a few HP too...bonus!

Uhoh, sounds like Stu is gonna go for the 3G Taurus alternator swap. Mucho amporama for electrical goodies like fans and the like. Then you can hide the relays in the old voltage regulator can.

Coupla reasons to go with the V6 one. Firstly, the 3G only comes on the V 6 and 8 motors. For those of us that are adapting to an older car, the sideways motor 3G's have a longer tang where the adjuster bolt goes. That can be a time saver when it comes to adapting the old slider adjustment bracket. And lastly, the V8 cars gets picked over first and can command higher prices for the same parts.
Not that it matters to me, noooooooooo, like hell it don't!
