hi there and Happy Thanksgiving! trying to take my control valve out before i head over to see the family. i cannot figure out how to press the ball stud from the pitman arm....i am trying to avoid taking the pitman arm off directly. --everything else is disconnected....got roll pin out and sleeve disconnected... the tool in the Merc manual (60M-1605) is not available as far as i can tell.
any and all advice appreciated. i want this valve out!!!!

A tuning fork or ball joint seperator tool and a good sized hammer, maybe just the hammer. A sharp blow against the pitman arm where stud is will quite frequently drop the stud out.

was thinking about a tuning fork/pickle fork...but also heard that it can ruin an arm? its still on the car and i dont have it on a lift, just jack stands...and not alot of room to wail on that arm with a hammar.....but gonna try this weekend! guys keep saying that it will simply drop out of the arm with one good hit but i am not seeing a whole lotta room for it to go. heres hopin'! thanks!

Hey Arie! funny you should ask.....i FINALLY got that sucker out! turns out it was the original Bendix valve so it was very stuck. i had tried heating, pounding, tapping, tons of penetrant,.... (whole premise was that i did not want to remove pitman arm) so.....i removed power cylinder and sent if off for a rebuild..thereby giving me more room to work around valve, took tire off for more room.....then dismantled the power steering control valve piece by piece until just the ball stud was left inside the pitman arm. tried just pounding the top of stud but was getting worried about the shaking of pitman so....i put a jack underneath the pitman thereby making it sturdy and solid and then it took 2 hits of my mini sledge hammer and out popped that sucker!! d**n....its been 2 months of trying to get that sucker out....and the pitman arm is still on. heres hoping i can get a new control valve in easily. thanks for checking in! cant wait to get my rebuilt power cylinder this week!
