For those running discs brakes, looking for some input on whether to go power or manual? For those who are running manual how well can you stop your meteor?

well, my Fairlane is nearly identical to the Meteor in every aspect and it stops with authority. It is manual disc on all four corners.

All 4 corners, what did you get your parts for, & if you know what work was involved?

I did the front brake swap a long time ago before there were adapter brackets so did the Granada swap. Much later I put a narrowed nine inch with large Torino type bearings so used the Explorer rear disc setup from Ford Racing. My master cylinder is a Corvette that will go either power or manual.
My recommendation now is to use a kit that has the early style four piston Mustang calipers. That is available from Scarebird and at least one other seller. One of those two also markets a rear bracket set to adapt as well.

I didn;t like the feel of my manual brakes when i ran front discs, rear drums, so, when i switched to 4 wheel disc front -12" 4 piston wilwood rears - Currie 11" rear disc kit I wanted to go power & found that a Mustang 11 booster, is small enough to fit the early F;lane along with a 4 wheel disc MC off a 97 Mustang GT. Before notching, had about 1/2" of space off the end of the MC to shock tower I know it can be a crap shoot, cobbling various brake parts together, but, this set up is simply fantastic.

Just remember, if you do a complete new brake job on the Meteor with four wheel drums.... It will have good braking, for a mid sixties car. Trouble is, the roads are full of new cars with much better brakes and if push comes to shove, you'll be using one of them to stop. An upgrade to your brakes can certainly improve that situation.

thanks for the input. Yeah Im going to hit a pick in pull next week and see whats out there. If I find a booster/master that looks like it would work then I might go that route. Ive got the Scarebird brackets already to be installed.....

If your not notching your towers, choices are relaly limited, thats assuming the Meteor is same as the early F;lane With an aftermarket dual diaphram PB, & a dual MC your into the shock tower, i;m assuming thats one of the reasons the factory p.booster/MC was angled up at so much. If you can find a single diaphram booster/dual MC, like the Mustang 11, you should clear the tower This is a drastic mod, but i;ve seen guys that used the Astro vans Hydro-boost units, but, then you need power steering to run the hydroboost. If you;ve thought about a notch tower kit, like RRS or Crities, you would have a whole new world of booster/MC kits to choose from. then again, i;m sure guiys here will tell u manual 4 wheel disc work just fine, or, i just remembered this one! Look up Arie;s mod, he used & posted this mod, using a Suzuki or , the Chevy one , can;t recall the name of that little SUV's, MC/ booster thats a fairly simple bolt on & fits without touching your towers, according to Arie he can lock up his binders at any speed. Following Aries post, we did collect all the parts for this mod, made the plate that Arie made & actually had it installed. We put a few miles on the F;lane & the brakes were just great (Granada disc/drum rear)when, the Wilwood/Currie/booster/mc 4 wheel disc kit fell into my lap, so we didn;t get a chance to really wring her out.

The dimensions of the Meteor and Fairlane from shock tower to firewall are identical. Wasn't that a Chevy Geo or some such? Same as a Suzuki Swift or something like that.

There u go Jeephawk, discuss with Arie that Geo MC install. There is a guy here, Falcon stroked 351 running the Geo/Swift MC/Booster, followed Aries design for mounting plate, & swears by it.

I would suggest going to power. Granted I have the hydroboost setup which runs a krc power steering pump, which took a while to do, but I can pretty much outbreak anything. My dads 62 Meteor on the other hand which is manual brakes with disks up front and drums out back is way different. It's pretty bad, stiff peddle, pressure is not that good, it will stop, but it could be much better. Seriously go power!

Pic. so big Elliot i can;t make out, is that your Dad;s mill? Running the same MC as me, at least same look, 97 Mustang GT for 4 wheel disc brakes, with a booster they are just fanatastic, as you say, not so great manual, i did run manual 4 wheel disc, until my first panic stop When i finaly did get her stopped, i noticed i had both feet stomping the brak pedal! I agree, power brakes are the way to go, if at all possible
