www.fairlanefalconbrakeparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=601#this company insists that they will require zero modifications to the spindle when used for a 62' Mercury Meteor with V8. Scarebird, my other choice says modifications while slight, will be needed. anyone every used this falcon/fairlane company i posted a link to? Its called Superior Automotive Products. many thanks in advance,

Sounds interesting, they only take calls M - F & today is Sat. Did you get a price, & their "complete" conversion did not seem to include a master cylinder or proportioning valve?? Also they ahd other interesting conversions, including 4 wheel disc conversions.

I have scarebird on my Meteor and the "mods" are super easy. The only other thing you need to make sure you do have is rims that fit disc brakes I had the original rims that were only deep enough for drums.

The advantage of the kit that uses the early Mustang calipers is you can use your original 14" wheels.

I think you didn't have stock wheels them because mine are stock and they fit with no probs. I know scarebird changed their kit a little time back and updated it which other donors part like previa rotors vs ranger rotors. I followed their instructions and no probs with fitment and stock wheels...... Best part is that it was like an easy half the cost of other people's kit.

The only other setback was finding a dual master that worked with my proportioning valve that I robbed off a Grenada at the yard. And hunting down the correct fitting for the different sized lines coming off master... Would have been nice to find a non power dual master with correct fittings and includes a switch coming off back of master for cheap. I ended up just running a switch off my pedal inside to activate the lights.

You're better off with a pedal activated switch vs the pressure activated one once you start changing the brakes. I found that the fluid pressure switch wouldn't make contact unless I stood on the pedal hard once I put the disc fronts on. Don't confuse the pressure differential safety valve with a brake proportioning valve. A prop valve will limit the line pressure to the rear so you won't swap ends. The differential safety valve will split the system to give you brakes on one end or the other if there is a major leak of fluid and the wire to it is only to light up a brake system trouble light on the dash.

So are you saying that stock cars don't have proportioning valves? Or are you saying that the Grenada doesn't have a valve?
