hey there! anyone know of the compatability of a 62' meteor battery apron? mine is all rusted under the battery box...aftermarker not available. would a 64' comet work for this? or a 63' fairlane? or just get a fabricated piece put in? any advice appreciated.
--i am getting engine compartment cleaned up nice and thats my only rust, but its significant.
thanks!

They do reproduce the battery aprons from 62-64 Fairlane & they are well made I know a guy here who installed the F;lane apron in his 63 Meteor with no drama

62-65 Fairlane part will fit like new. Whether they are still reproduced is not certain.

Let us know if they respond. DC used to have them and then when they were bought out by Ecklers, they weren't available. It would be good to know if they have resumed a relationship with the fabricator.

Okay, got some good/bad answers today: first, Ecklers bought BOTH DC and MAC. so they are working on one big catalog and one big website but its gonna take awhile so for now its still 3 sites.
next: the battery apron is still in temporary discontinued status on DC site and they said its because fabricator either could not keep up or they are looking for a new fabricator. there is no way for them to notify me of availability short of calling every couple weeks and checking up. bummer. but glad its not totally discontinued?

Good that they haven't ruled it out. You mentioned Oklahoma. There is a yard I know of just North of Tushka on the East side of the road that had several Fairlanes and at least one Meteor of the right vintage. This is South of Atoka and the owner's name is Rector. Bring up google maps or earth and you can get the phone number from the billboard out front.

If he does, let me know. Maybe one of these times when I visit I'll take some means of recording what is there.

Hey sorry for late reply. I ended up using a mustang tray which you can get anywhere pretty much and for way less too. The only thing you have to do is drill out a couple spot welds on the angled piece and either reweld in new locating or bolt together. Not really a big deal since noone will ever see it. You can do this too say you want a different size battery too. The there is the top fasten vs old school bottom fasten look. Just depends on how original your going. If you dont care then just go mustang route and save bucks and time.

The Mustang battery tray is the same as the Fairlane/Meteor pieces as long as you reverse the brace. The apron is specific to the Fairlane/Meteor.

update on Oklahoma wrecking yard: Called both Rectors garage AND salvage yard and both either rang forever or was a fax machine number. kinda wondering if the guy is still in the business? called a few times...but not gonna give up yet!
also...yep, i bought the battery tray from a mustang guy and it looks right. still cant find an apron but gonna stay up with MACs every few weeks to check on status. meanwhile...just gonna continue cleaning up engine bay and yank the steering box and rag joint for a rebuild.
thanks for advice

update on battery apron: since i couldnt find a new apron and putting in one was probably outside my skill set...i used a grinder and tin snips and cut out rust into a nice square and prepped the area via a Youtube video that schooled me. then had a buddy who works with sheet metal fabricate a piece for me and mig weld it. not beautiful but it will be covered up by battery box and at least there are no more holes! thanks for all your advice.
