My daughter started it all with an 85 Cherokee XJ with the 2.8 GM V6. What a turd.... Her ex husband was one of those who spooged everything under the hood liberally with silicone spew. Consequently, it ran hot because the radiator was chronically plugged and it would eat oxygen sensors for breakfast. She got rid of the Jeep and husband, unfortunately not in that order. Then we had a 90 XJ with the French electronics. Mistake for sure but they only used them froggy electronics for 89/90. After that things improved and we have since had a 93, 94 and now a 2000 XJ with good luck. We just get a newer one and sell/give the old one to the kid. Long run for the model and cheap parts widely available. The wife is pissed since they discontinued the XJ in 2001.

The Liberty is heavier, more expensive and smaller so that wasn't really an option. She tried on a Grand Cherokee for size and hated it. They finally put a steel rear hatch on the last ones too. That really bumped the price of repair when she got rear-ended a couple years ago.
