I just bought a parts car, a 63 V8 Ranchero. Testing everything I noticed the belt was not there for power steering & put it on. When I touch the steering wheel, the PS goes crazy. My steering wheel rapidly (hands not touching) turns to one extreme then the other Right then left. It does so over & over again till I turn off key. Any ideas??

I remember reading at Ford muscle a guy posted these same issues, if I recall the p.steering lines had been hooked up backwards, causing violent steering wheel movement, did anyone work on p,steering & could have put hoses on wrong?

I will check hoses. I have no idea of car's history. Seller had mentioned problem, & I forgot. But needed to see for myself. As I am removing the engine & putting in another identical car I thought I would include power steering at the same time. I have other pumps, on parts cars, will remove the control valve from any (I have 2 others) that look clean & check hoses to see if "opposite" thanxxx - - Anybody else ever heard of such a problem? At66 it is a first for me.
