Hey guys. I have a 62' S-33...putting a 89' 302 in it. since i have the engine out and the bay is nice and empty i thought i should consider replacing the stock sway bar with something bigger and with urethane bushings to accomodate the increased horsepower i will be getting...( appr. 275hp)
-- first, would love your opinion on this.
--second, i have found 62' fairlane sway bar kits with 1 1/8th inch bar...will this work? is the stock bar 1" ? could replacing the bushings with something other than rubber do the job too?
thanks in advance,
Mike.

Stock bar was 5/8 to 11/16 if it even came with one. Yes it is true, not all had an anti-sway bar from the factory. 7/8 or one inch should be plenty since this is still a light car. Should you decide to add a bar in the rear, do a lot of research. Too much rear bar will make the car tail-happy. I have a one inch bar on my Fairlane and the rear has traction bars that are angled opposite the spring angles to help control that axle. Whatever you do, it has to balance so too much is not necessarily better.
I also have polygraphite bushings everywhere except the uppers and rear shackles. Your front and rear suspension has the Anti-Harsh bits that are not available aftermarket but some of the Meteor people have developed work arounds.

meteor pics dated July 2012 , a pic of meteor rear w/rear swa bar mounted on top of rear end, it is 3/4 in (spring steel) front is 1 1/8 spring steel note some out there are not harden steel, just bent steel (old front laying on floor) hope this helps METEORMAN

thanks guys! regarding rear: i put in new leafs and shackles and shocks. was not considering a rear bar at all with this low hp of 275?
thank you for info on front sway...i did see that the meteor suspension was unique when i replaced everything last year.....seems more rugged than fairlane of that same year. i am gonna go with the 1 inch front bar and replace the one i have on.
...also gonna post a seperate threat about locking versus open differentials.
