Good morning, New to this forum and have a few questions... Thx again...
I have 2 62 meteors, s33 2 door and a 4 door with a 170. Working on the 4 door now and have everything lined up (i think).(302 with pan filled c4 auto trans...
1. Are the suspensions the same between the 6 cylinder Meteor and 8 cylinder Meteor? I am asking because i am putting a 302 V8 in place of the 170 I6...
2. Are the spring perch dimensions the same on a 66 (V8) mustang 8 inch rear end vs my 62 I6 4 door meteor?
3. suggestions on brakes? I am looking for 11'' disc front and drum rear from like a wagon.

I have 66 V8 rear ends, posi & not posi various gear ratios. I am in Central California. Don't waste your time going drum on front, add value to your car by going disc.

Sill no clue WHERE you are. I have a 63 Fairlane & 63 Meteor with good rear ends, but will not waste your time any more without knowing your location as they are obviously not something to ship.

I am in west Texas (Andrews) and have found an 8 inch rear end that i want out of a 66 mustang, i am not looking for a meteor rear end ( just want to know if it will bolt on without any issues), I will be between 350-400 HP with this 302 build and will be using a pan filled c4 transmission and need a rear end that can both handle what i am using and fit.
You seem to know about these cars, can you tell me if the same suspension is used for both 6 and 8 cylinder engines? I am putting the 302 in the 4 door meteor that currently has the 170 I6 in it. Need to know if i need to upgrade and then look at options... Thank you...

If lug nuts are 5 - not 4 - PROBABLY - same suspension. As far as a rear end to hold up to your 302/V8 - C4, no problem, you will blow a few C-4's (weak link) before blowing an 8 inch rear end. I am not sure whether the Mustang & Meteor Rear ends are direct replacements, but strongly suspect that the 3d member is which means you need not bother with brakes, springs etc.
BUT ... there are many on this site possibly more familiar with correct answers to your questions. The C4 is your wink link, fine for cruisin, but not for flooring the pedal very often. I went through 4 c-4's in my stang & only had 225 HP.

Good morning, I finally bought both cars and found that the suspension's are the same so i am in good shape there. Drove the 4 door and i must say it drives great, just a tiny pull but handles very well. As far and the rear end I was told the same thing by the owner, 5 lug should be exact for the rear end swap. I will measure and look and see if the current rearend reduces like the 64 mustang 8 inch. Thanks again, now its off to find some disc brake conversion with a dual master cylinder...

The suspension between the 6 cyl and the 8 cyl are not the same. Spindles for the 8 cyl are heavier than the 6 cyl. Springs for the 6 cyl are softer than the 8 cyl springs 8 cyl is heavier then the 6 cyl making the spring stiffer. If you can find a 67- 69 Fairlane parts car with disc brakes it is an easy swap as the spindles fit right into the meteor. I used a geo storm master power brake unit, somewhere on this site are the instructions.

A lot of newer VS old timer, shops can damage your car by doing it the way they do "all of the other cars". There is even a right way and wrong way to jack it up or place it on a lift.

Thank you, I will look any of that up prior to having it done. Not sure if i should start a new thread but i am having a couple issues. 1. upgrade suspension so it will be no issues dropping this V8 302 into it. The car feels fine and the rear just needs a couple of shocks, it has 5 leafs and i think that is enough. 2nd. I am looking for disc front brakes ( rear too if there is a set), I am seeing new aftermarket kits about the same price as buying old stuff to add new stuff, i just need to make sure what models will fit. I have been told 66-69 fairlane with bolt on directly but i am now asking if anyone knows for sure? 3rd. Panfilled C4 Transmission - has anyone seen one around?

I installed the disc brake system from a 68 fairlane in my meteor. The spindles bolted right in had to extend the brake line with the correct bend in it. Works like a dream
