hey everyone....i am about 2 weeks away from replacing my 3rd member. while its out i want to replace seals and bearings.
2 questions:
-- I have heard 2 ways of installing new oil seals, one is just pound it in dry BUT the 62' Merc book says to use a sealant on outside before pounding it in as well as soaking seal in 10-30 first.
what is the right way? my instinct says dry since these are modern seals?
--second question: i am putting a posi-traction(Eaton Tru trak-clutchless) in. I was going to use the builders recommended gear oil (70W, non-synthetic). Does anyone have an opinion on this oil choice? I will be installing an entire new 3rd member. ( 8 inch, 68' waffle case)
thanks for your info
