what Stu was sayin is that its always been cheaper to build a small block chevy cause there has always been a huge number of guys racin small block chevys so parts were always available at good prices plus with cheys back door policy parts are always bein upgraded,whereas Fords has always been off and on. just been in the past 10-15 years that the Ford guys have a good supply of parts at reasonable prices

Well at least in the last 10-15 years an alternative has emerged. Pick any performance engine catalogue from hard parts to accessories.. Ten years ago, 100 pages wud be 90 pgs Chevy, 5 Ford, 5 Mopar. At least now most are 50 pgs Chev, 35 pgs Ford, 8 Mopar, 7 Pontiac.
Actually in the latest Summit catalogue, in the back where they hav specialty sections the breakdown is;
5.0 FORD - 16 pgs LT1/LS1 Chev - 11 pgs Mopar - 4 pgs SPORT COMPACT (ALL MAKE) - 5 pgs
It seems there is less specialty stuff to bult a 340 Dodge than a Honda.

Hmmm, I have a Camaro prop valve on my Fairlane. I get purists calling my 302 a 289 or 260 and then saying to put the six back in it. This is when the fender badges even say 5.0. Oh well, I let them think whatever they want. I'll get one saying to his buddy that it's 260 and get a reply of no, it's a 289. When they look at me I just say yep, that's what it is.

As for cheaper to build a Chevy, no question. It's all about volume. The Ford stuff has all come down but everything from custom valve covers, intakes and headers are less for a bowtie. ANYTHING from Billit Specialties, March performance etc is 20% more for anything but a SBC. It's not they don't like the rest, its about volume. In regular replacement parts the Chev isn't always the cheapest, its what sells the most. That can be anything from a Ford Tempo exhaust pipe to a Honda wheel cylinder. Why can you buy a disc rotor for a Tempo for 10 bucks but the same size for a Kia or Grand Prix 4 times more. They sell a ton more of the Tempo ones, thats why.

I like tech challenges where I have to build my own stuff. So, pictures of the cool pieces that had to be fabbed would be good.
I do like that Mercolet, but shouldn't that be Meteorolet?
