Here is another alternative with much newer tech than M2 and doesn't require the major surgery. www.rrs-online.com/

If i were go to the mustang 2 front end then I would be able to use the rear sump oil pan which would give me another 20hp then I also would be able to have a good set of hooker header instead of my crappy custom headers that don't really flow properly. That should free up 10hp and I would also lose some weight up front maybe 200 pounds which is worth acouple tenths. So my chevy powered meteor would be running 11.70s no doubt. I also like the fact that I will have disk brakes and new springs shocks tie rods control arms etc. I would like the fenders hood grill taken off then having the car cut apart, the shock towers are the first to go LOL then have support welded into the firewall like a drag car and some tube frame railing with some tin work maybe the removable kind. This would also give me alot of room for a bigger radiator which I really need. Maybe even putting the battery in the trunk. What do you guys think.

A buddy of mine took his 64 Fairlane and gutted it. Put in a full cage and extended the cage through the firewall to a point ahead of the tires. He removed all the shock towers and mounted coilovers to the roll cage and cut the centers out of the upper control arms and mounted the bottom of the coilovers to the lower control arm. He was well on the way to nines with a 289 four barrel four speed, no electronics and no juice. For your purposes you may as well go with struts and front steer to clear the rear sump you want. I have seen the M2 conversions on this platform and I am not impressed. I don't see the point in replacing 40 year old tech with thirty year old tech and gaining weight. Just my opinion you understand.

Are you saying that the m2 will add weight. I thought that by removing the shock towers and inner fender whels that I would lose weight. Someone has suggested the struts to me are they better. I am going to street drive this car and drag it every once and a while.

well it aint like 1947(?) technology(struts) is new stuff. problem with me and struts is that i've had them on Mustangs,Capri,Porsche and i just dont like them as much as a double-wishbone/a-frame suspension - but thats only preference, but then my fave is a straight front axle and that is just wrong but it looks KOOL if you start replacin sheet metal with tubing, yur probly gonna pick up weight since you need to make it take street abuse. yur gonna end up with a more rigid frame and thats good for handlin all that bein said that really is a neat package at rrs-online

The existing springs are horribly heavy and they actually put greater stress on the platform than the scale weight of the car. It's all leverage and if you have ever changed the springs on one of these, you'll know that stuffing 18 and a half inches of spring into that space has a serious pucker factor. I know struts have been around a long time but I am thinking about losing weight and complications on his front end. It is just my opinion that the M2 conversions for this platform aren't that desirable and they certainly aren't inexpensive. Yes the RRS conversion is spendy but people spend way more than that on disc brake conversions alone. Morrison has some pretty struts as well.
Remember, I know nothing and I can prove it. It also helps that it doesn't bother me.
