Very reluctantly, I've decided to sell my 63 Custom Hardtop. I use it as a daily driver and, while I'm not aware of any rust developing in it, it's probably just a matter of time before it does and I'd feel badly about that.
The car is the 4th one down on Stu's main page under Reader's Rides and is #9 in Stu's Meteor Registry.
Briefly, the body is in excellent condition and is all stock except for the hood which was louvered by the guy from whom I purchased it. I go through waves of really liking the hood to wanting to replace it with an original.
The car was repainted well before I bought it in 2002, but it is still in the factory colour, Black Cherry Metallic. The hood though, is a matte black. The fellow said it made it look more like a '60s racer. You decide.
The interior is stock and in good shape - black and white. There are two tears in the white headliner, the longest of which is about 3". Both have been stitched together.
The running gear is not original. It has a strong 302 out of a 1980s Mustang coupled to a 4 spd automatic. The rear end is original (3.00:1). The front brakes have been converted to disks. There's a 3-core rad and electronic ignition. The only work of any consequence I did was to replace the heater core and to fabricate the rubber bellows in the heater box. Works great!
What particularly sold me on this car is its sound! It has dual cherry bomb exhausts that, while not the quietest puppies on the block, really sound great.
I'm asking $5,500 CDN or $4,000 US. The car and I are in Victoria, British Columbia. For $100 US, I'd be willing to deliver it to the Canadian side of the U.S. border at Blaine, WA where (I believe) there are shipping companies that will take it to you in the US. Or you could meet me there.
I have a pile of parts (mostly stainless steel trim pieces) that will go with the car. At this point, I'm not interested in selling any separately.
I bought a new aerial for the car on Ebay, but haven't put it on. I also bought a new dome light and chrome bezel, and they look good. New also is the washer fluid bag, but I haven't connected it yet. Oh, yeah, the trunk rubber is new too. Lastly, I bought two sets of original, correct Mercury key blanks on Ebay and had them cut for the car.
Please post any questions for me here or email me at meteor63mercury@yahoo.ca.
