The '62 is in the shop this week as we build up the new frame rails and suspension for the "Mercury Meatier" gasser project. My friend Brent from savagesandcars.biz is doing the hard part of cutting and welding the new chassis. The front end is out of a '53 Chevy 3100 (I-beam axel and leafs) along with new spindles and discs from Speedway. The rear is out of a '65 T-Bird and I'll be hanging that from a set of ladder bars and coil overs. There will be a roller by end of week sitting on some skinny tires up front and a pair of fat Firestone whitewall cheaters out back. Hopefully I'll have some pix to post soon.
If we are feeling really ambitious, we may pull the motor and trans next week, cut the old sub frames out and mary the body and roller. )There will be lots of spare parts when all is said and done, so stay tuned.)

We are cutting out the inner fenders and fabbing up some big 'ol fender well headers with cut outs. I'm not too sure about the front bumper yet. I want to see if I can modify some Fairlane fiberglass bumpers to fit so I can save some weight. I remember W2 saying something about them not fitting and needing some mods to work. There will be some sort of front bumper, though, the 40's and 50's type gassers look cool without the bumper but I don't like the 60's cars sans bumper.

The original Tbolts had a fiberglass front end and the bumper was a molded in 63 style. NHRA pitched a bitch and made them put a metal bumper over it. The aluminum bumper never fit worth a d**n so they are always out of alignment in the pictures. Crites and a couple other suppliers have glass replacement bumpers that bolt up to the stock supports with some drilling.

Yeah, I want to see some pix too. I talked to Brent today, the frame was supposed to be done by lunch time today. He'll start hanging suspension parts off it tomorrow. He was having a bit of trouble with his frame table since it's designed to hold round tubing for his buggies. He had to do some mods on it for my 2x3 square tube. But it sounds like he likes what he sees, so hopefully I'll have something to show soon. Maybe Ca could stop by and take some spy pix for us?

Wheels are mounted up on the meats. The frame is done. Ladder bar brackets are on the niner, the other end will be on the frame tomorrow. There was some machining needed on the front axel, turns out the axel was a heavy duty version and not the light duty like we thought, so a tiny shave was required to fit the spindles.
I still don't have pix. Brent keeps working and forgets to stop for a photo op. I'm sure we will have some pix of the complete roller by Sunday or Monday!

Dude you gotta get over there today, it is up on it's hind feet right now! Just got off the phone with Brent, the rear end is all set up and slicks are bolted on. He's workin' the front end right now. Hopefully he'll get around to taken some pix today, but since he's not much of an internet kind of guy he doesn't think too much about sendin pix around. It's soundin' like the rear might be a tad wider than we thought once we put tires and wheels on. I might need to narrow that sucker. I just didn't want to spend that extra cash.

Very cool. Is the front wheel centerline moved ahead a little too? Are you pushing the rear wheels forward as well?
