hey stu or anybody else-whats the purpose of the hydrolic line from the power steering pump to the throttle linkage?looks like the linkage is supposed to push a plunger at idle like to decrease pressure maybe ?

Engine Idle control valve-According to manual I have it was to increase idle speed to eliminate the problem of engine stalling when parking. "When the steering stops are contacted the output of the pump becomes maximum and maximum pressure is directed to control valve"-

I have a 1962 Pre-Delivery Manual specifically for the Meteor- its pretty neat gives all the adjustments the dealer is to make before delivery. Also have shop manual for Meteor Ref PCV: I just won a Factory PCV set up on ebay for the 221. going to install as soon as it gets here.

hey thanks for the info on the manuals-i found a place close to home that sells reprint shop manuals for classic types-50 bucks which is cheap when ya need one yesterday and hey andy great find on the pcv setup now just plug that draft tube hole and breath thru chrome covers.and think i remember ya saying ya had some and hey andy again where does your dealers book say the timing pointer and marks are?

Timing marks-The damper is marked with a raised dot for TDC. The pointer is attached to cover just above damber there are three bolts. Two bolts on top of each other and one to the left side of the bottom bolt.(standing in front of motor) The pointer is attached to that bottom left bolt. The pointer is marked 0, 3, 6 10 degrees BTDC. Book Recommends 6 degrees BTDC for 221 both standard and auto tranny. The pcv I got will replace the downdraft tube in back of manifold. going to tap it into vaccum plug at rear of manifold that tranny vaccum is attached to since my carb is on a water heater spacer and has no vacuum port. Distributor is pulled from small port on side of carb.

hey andy stu says his book shows it on the drivers side, but my 221 looks like i need it to the left.any timing to the right of the crank centerline(drivers side)and it starts getting hot at idle so that indicates retard.so what does your book show??

It shows a picutre of the balancer being removed and the bolt-on pointer is on the drivers side of the engine.

Yes it is on driver's side, two bolts on the bottom of cover the bolt to the inside -thats what I was trying to say the attachment bolt is left (Inside bolt) to the other bolts that are there on the drivers side cover.
