I used an 85 Mustang GT DurasparkII system which included the distributor and an MSD-5 box. My car has a 65 Mustang alternator setup on it, I had a points dizzy in my old 289. Any ford durasparkII will work, just be sure of the dizzy gear. The 85 Mustang GT is the only one that came with a steel gear for the roller cams so you will want to avoid that one if your running a stock cam. I still have the wiring diagram too. ;D

hey stu i've got an '80 dist and the ford blue insulator box,85 mustang coil, all stock ford. i read somewhere online that some people were having trouble with generators and the pertronix type setup and was wondering if anyone had heard of that problem with the ford setup. is the wiring diagram you have like the one at mustang steve's'?? i was hoping it would be the same on a meteor concerning the resistor to the points, etc . i'm chasing a problem with a lean condition or ignition problem when i go uphill it likes to backfire through the carb a bit.i've dropped and cleaned the tank, new fuel lines, carb, points, plugs, wires, even added an electric fuel pump,so i figured a new ignition system might help and a needed upgrade anyway.any conversion diagrams would help

so you just split the ign wire and use the existing ballast resistor without adding a resister or resistor wire?? i'm getting 12 volts at my ign terminal and i think thats what the ford uses.i got the lifetime warrenty on the module so i guess i could mess it up a couple of times.lol.. i did all this to '74 capri 2 years ago and i barely remember it.this gettin old is a bunch of crap!!!

Just use the stock "pink" resistance wire, it will work fine. You should have around 10 volts at the coil with the engine running if you wire it that way. I had to wire up the DurasparkII and then wire an MSD-5 in to that.....it was hard on the head and I'm good with electrical work.

Cool, did you make sure you have 12+ volts going to the pertronix unit?

hay stu i did'nt use the pertronix unit --i went with the ford stuff.i got nervous about the generator and pertronix not getting along stories--20 bucks for the distributor-20 bucks for the ford control box-20 bucks for the coil-saved myself 20to40 bucks.stop in any autozone and get parts
