The 62-65 Fairlanes and Meteors all had the rubber isolated drive shafts. Unless you are pulling wheelies and pushing 500+ hp, don't worry about it.
I have to check with the owner of the pic, but there is a member on FCA that has recently done the swap to 4 sp and did his own tinwork. Looks much easier than you might think too. His will exit through the stock console as well since he bent a dogleg in the shifter. I'll post the picture if I get his permission.
