i'ma thinkin of runnin the F303 cam. the question is = is anybody runnin a cam with .512 lift(this includes those that are runnin the E303 with 1.7 rockers) with stock valve springs? i need to put a 5.0 together real fast like and don't have the time for the headwork right now but i will be doin a set of heads post haste and i would like to not have to pull the the whole engine or at least loosen and raise to put in the F303 etc. - may not have to but not sure at the moment. git it?

I'm running the B303 with 1.7's and the Trick Flow springs so I'm right at .514 or so. The stock springs for a roller 5.0 are only good to .500 new.

He has P heads, pretty sure he still has the pedestal mount rockers. I have a trickflow stg-1 cam here to go in the Merc, right in the middle of a B and E cam. You'll need new springs with the roller E-cam, you got a roller block sittin around?

Competiton Cams makes some retro fit roller lifeters, no machine work needsed in older blocks.
google competiton cams or look in the Summit or Jegs catalog.

We have used both the Comp Cams roller tipped for the regular non-rail arms and I currently have the roller tipped "rail type" on my 302 now. Never had a problem. Where I DID have a problem was with the adjusting kit they sell for the rail types that uses a special washer over the pivot and a waayyy to small (thickness) nut that backs off easily. Poor (NO) instructions came with them and it cost me a stud breaking off. Better way to make them adjustable is to use a set of 5/16 Poly locks (fairly rare but I got from Summit). They have no threads inside for the first 1/4 inch that allows them to travel over the bottoming hump on the studs. The new setup waiting for install is in my other post. Nice stuff. Full roller rockers, pivots & tips, 1.72 ratio. Love it. Getting ready to head to North Dakota tomorrow morning for the annual "Devil's Run" in Devil's Lake ND. Anybody remotely close?

I was babbling (typing) away when I realized John was talking about roller LIFTERS not rockers. Oh well, it's all good.

Yep, mine are the dreaded bolt down rockers. I was lookin at some aluminum heads with 190cc intakes and shaft rockers for giggles. Pretty reasonable price too. Made in Oz no less.

yeah Stu, i've had this thing sittin round for a couple years. plannin on puttin it in the Capri. looks like it'll be a little longer to build it right so i'ma gonna pick up another one this weekend just to stick in for a while= they are pretty common round here. i'd like to get a four valve in there but they are just toooo darn heavy plus the tranny issues. with the Merc i think i'ma gonna go with another 221 or a 289 that i've got sittin around but that will be a little while i hope.
thanks for all the info you guys and girl = even the babblin part ;D

never hear of a 4 way hit of orange wedge in the tank................but what ever it is you better make it a double.
Did I mention we will be takin it from a red light.......that way everything is fair and square.
all you will be doing is reading my license plate's. Better get out your binocular's cause I will be way ahead of ya......

Ok so I am getting ever closer to building up my motor for the merc and have narrowed down my came selection to choices.
Trick flow stage 1 cam Int .499 duration 275 @.050 221 Ex .510 duration 279 @.050 225 lobe separtion112
B303 with 1.7 rockers Int .510 duration 284 @.050 224 Ex.510 duration 284 @.050 224 lobe separation 112
F303 Int .512 duration 288 @.050 226 Ex. 512 duration 288 @.050 226 Lobe separation 114
These are all real similar and close in price as well. What do you guys think will net the most HP/TQ. AS well what do you guys think about the drivabliity of these. Though they are different, a 10-15 HP difference is going to count! Also let this be a free post for reference of what kind of cams ya'll are runnin and how much power they're making and how you like them.
PS- i want my car very streetable....it will be at least an every weekend car....and drag race very rarely to none at all.

For streetable lower end with a racing upper end consider some Rhoads roller lifters. They are designed to bleed off at lower rpms so your cam will be much milder until you hit about 3500 rpms when they will pump up to max for the go fast part. You will need stud mounted rockers though.
