I kinda like traction bars, it reminds me of the '69 Camero my brother had in highschool. It's just cool old school hot rod stuff. Beyond traction bars I can't think of anything other than going up to a 4 link or ladder bars.

what can i say, im a rebel..... that was back in the dog leg days when burnouts were easy and gas was ONLY $1.80 a gallon.... i think im gonna have to try the traction bars, but from what my fairlane buddies tell me they dont agree with the springs too well. but hey, if they dont its more reason to out a better rear suspension in

You need a couple of things with traction bars being one. A better pinion snubber is the other. Wheel hop will destroy your leaf springs in short order. Look at the front half of your leaves and there should be a continuous arc from the axle to the front spring eye. If there ain't, there will be a pronounced bend starting about eight or ten inches aft of the eye. I had my new springs re-arched after some smoky wheel-hoppers. I have 4.11 gears in a Detroit locker nine inch with home built trac bars and an improved pinion snubber. Subframe connectors don't hurt either. i6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/w2zero/Tractionbar.jpgi6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/w2zero/P3050089.jpgIncidentally, do you know what they call an Amish man armpit deep in a horse's ass? A mechanic.

Nope, those are the poly-bushed cast stainless 3/4 inch in L and R thread for double adjustable action. I bought the ends from Art Morrison through a buddy with an employee discount. The tubing inserts and ends set me back about 60 bucks as opposed to 150 retail.
Yes, I have thought about adding the upper links and coil overs somewhere in the future. I think there is room for angled uppers like the Fox body Mustangs and the coil overs in the Speedway catalogue are temting.

w2zero,
Those are cool! Ya wanta make me a set of those?
What about the rear mounting piece under the spring pack? Did you fabricate that also?

Yes I did some fudging and fabbing on the shock plates. My original shock plates were made for the rubber damper all round the springs and too wide to clamp without bending. The other ones are some old Toyota pickup items that I cut the shock tab off of and reconfigured to fit. The trac bar brackets are welded into the shock plates and the other end is welded to the ends of the subframe connectors. They could have been welded to the torque box just as easily. Oddly enough, since the leaf springs are angled in towards the front, and the traction bars are angled out toward the front, they have an effect on keeping the rear end flatter on corners.
If you want some traction bars, it'll cost ya.

my buddy runs em on a 64 comet, replacing the slapper bars with caltracs and a set of sliders dropped his 60 foot time from a 1.83 to a 1.66. they make the car SQUAT when it lauches. im tryin to buy his car, he wants 800 as a roller and its got 4 grand in ignition/fans/headers/fuel cell/fuel system/gauges/rear suspension/disc brakes all done at the beginning of the summer.
