Think again. I'm sure that it's like everything else in the world. No two things are exacly alike and if you get a odd bal tube here and a slightly shorter engine mount there it can all add up.

Naw, they fit in just the way the manufacturer said they would. Pulling the engine would take quite a bit more work. Now, if you want to keep from scratching the paint/coating then you need to pull the motor. But even pulling it would still give the same results, the driver side would touch and the pipe on the passenger side would bang as well.

oh really is it just the shock towers that's the problem

What I meant was the instructions said to remove certain parts (ie valve covers, trans dip stick tube, etc.) and that the driver side needed to go in from the bottom (beacuse of the steering box and brake booster) and the passenger side goes in from the top. That all worked, it's just the exact fit and finish so to speak that's the problem. We all know too well that nothing fits excactly right the first time, especialy something like this that has such a tight tolerance.

ok,what i'm wonderin is-is the only problem with the towers?cuz i was thinkin that if i ever git headers n the other engine done, that i would do the shock tower mods when i had everything out rather than go thru any hassle when i put it back in

Well yes and no. I mean the towers are there for the intended application. The car was designed with a certain motor size and a certain exhaust manifold. We are the ones putting different engines in that space. So I would say it's the headers fault. (bad headers!) I also think it would easier to fix the headers really. Cut a pipe here tighten it up there. How much can be done to widen/modify the towers.
I can see if the motor is out this whole thing would go alot easier. Drop the block in. Check clearance. Make mods. Reinstall.

i've got a 351 that i might use just becuz.then i know i'd have ta trim the towers for sure,at the route 66 cruise there were a couple cars with different stages of shock tower trim, like from just a lttle off ta like gone.but i have time becuz i need ta raise the funds so i'ma just gonna kick around a few ideas. it doesnt look impossible ta put a whole Fox body front suspension in there.that would save weight, add room, disc brakes n rack n pinion.but when i do it i dont wanna take more than a weekend with it.

Sorry, I meant to put a "?" after that shock tower statement. I do know they can be modified, I just don't know how much before you've gone too far. I might go that route later on. I just don't know enough about it. I know that the Crites site has a shock tower kit for extra space. I don't know what it includes. I may be looking into it.

there is so much metal around there ya could probly cut out the whole piece facing the exhaust manifold n never know it BUT! sounds scary dont it,but on my 70Ltd with similar suspension-that entire area is left open and covered with a canvas cloth to seal it up. the Ltd is a frame type instead of unibody but the frame and structure are really very similar.the way the metal is formed the only real support is from the angled piece runnin from the top of the tower and the sides, you could run a piece of tubing down to the cross member and it would probly be stronger.then you would need apiece of canvas ;D

Whoa, great work Ca, thanks. That does look like it will give some needed room, not a lot but way more than I've got now!
